The phrase ‘each to their own’ is particularly true when it comes to choosing your golf clubs. They have to suit you and your style of play. It’s often advisable to obtain ‘custom made’ clubs, but that can be far too expensive and just not feasable.
So what can you do? Well, you should always ‘try before you buy’ when considering purchasing a new club, and you should ensure that you read up on the reviews – sites such as golf bidder and golf gear review are great for that.
Of course, it’s not just clubs that go into the bag: balls, tees, towells and umbrellas all make up the golfers bag, and what about the bag itself? Well, i’ll try and talk you through the best of the best.
So what’s in my bag?
Well currently i am using the new Callaway Strike stand bag. This bag is stylish, lightweight and features a Dual strap system from Callaway as well as six pockets (including a cooler pocket). Fitted with a Dual stand system with a leg retainer attachment. Retails at £69.99 and i would highly reccommend it.
My driver is the Cobra M Speed Offset and i really do rate it. I rarely play a round nowadays without a friend ‘borrowing’ my driver.. it really is that good. Distance and accuracy, what more could you want? Retails at anything between £90 and £120 second hand, but honestly, well worth the money.
The 3 wood i am currently using is the Taylor Made 200 steel series, it offers great forgiveness and distance. Great club for those tricky Par 4’s where your driver may just shoot you too far. Retails at around £50, but again, comes fully reccommend.
Irons now, and i use Callaway X-14’s with graphite shafts, these clubs are often dubbed as the ‘best selling irons in Callaway history’, and it’s not hard to see why. They really are an excellent set of irons, very forgiving, big sweet spot and they go high and long! Real confidence clubs for the mid to high handicappers. Also available in ‘Pro’ series, but that’s some way off for me!
Next up is arguably the most important club of all, the putter. I recently bought a new one and deliberated long and hard about which putter to buy. In the end, i went for the ever reliable Ping Anser 2. An elastomer insert in the cavity provides enhanced feel while maintaining the solid response of a steel-faced putter. Very smooth and i now feel confident stepping up to sink those tricky 5-footers!
So there we go, that’s what’s in my bag. Over time i will let you know which clubs the pro’s use, and which clubs are reccommeded for all levels of golfers!

Yea clubs are very important. Often golfers get attached to a club and over use it. I fell victim to this with my 4 iron and tried to use it in every situation. It was a slazenger one, nice, budget set. Obviously trying to use it in every situation has its disadvantages when you hit a small par 3.

I’m not a massive fan of my 4-iron on the fair way, off the tee, no problem, but i’d much rather use my 5 or 6!

Agree with Tom Cameron, I look to use my 5 iron whenever possible, as it just can’t fail!!
Also I love certain golf balls which never seem to get lost. One is called Juicy, named so because of ‘Nike Juice’ printed on the ball. The other one is named after it’s colour, simply ‘pinky’. My love for these two golf balls has led to certain ‘friends’ being jealous, and I fear that one day soon they will be kidnapped, and clubbed into some trees.

I would like to categorically deny these kidnap allegations. If those two balls go ‘missing’ then it will be coincidence, nothing more!
However one culprit may be Mr. S Jones of 41 Seaford Street, he was earlier heard muttering something along the lines of “If that **** Pryce uses those balls again then I will wrap my 7-iron around his head”
Quick witted friend and housemate S. Curtis then said, “You’ll probably miss…”
